Luck : Movie Review

No expectations, No excitement, No Hopes, no drooling over Shruti, even not much listening of its songs. And I went into the hall. I knew, this was bad bad movie [thanx to tons of reviews out there]. But yes, i was prepared and my friend was too, supporting me :P After six headache filled days of training/exam, I felt need in my nerves to feel the smell of celluloid, and there I was-watching yet another 'so called' disaster of the year. 'Luck' a Soham Shah directed adventure [!!]. A launchpad for Shruti Hassan, who barely can speak. [or was she nervous, amongst all seniors :P] Here, I would like to borrow a sentence from Filmigirl's Review : She showed more talent in this role than Deepika Padukone has in her three films put together. :D haha...Well said !!

But actually, really, honestly speaking- I liked the movie. Yes, Yes, i liked it. Okay, I am not being 'different' from all, or I am not being 'attention-seeker' but seriously, I liked it as a clean fun time pass. Remember Aa Dekhen Zara? People rejected it at once, but I loved it :) So, that's just me. Okay, movie has its own flaws. A part [20 min approx] after intermission, was boring when game after a game was coming, so it became like Fear Factor episode, but soon it got back on track. But again in climax, Ravi Kissen lost the track. Otherwise, everything is smooth.

Chitrashi Rawat - the Chak De girl, caught all the attention. She was really fabulous, that I wasn't looking at Shruti at all, whenever both are on screen. Shruti was looking confused, nervous, depressed, whatever. But still, i want to see her in a full fledged role, that would be fine. Imran Khan, well, he hardly has his 'own' part in this movie. Either he is driven by Danny Denzongpa [Mind Blowing !!] or he looked lost somewhere. But still, there were sparks. And after watching this, I would definitely go for Kidnap.

Danny was a treat to watch. He over shines everyone. I wished if he was used more after intermission too, when story focuses mainly on Sanjay Dutt who is just keep coming and going in frames. I didn't find anything special in his role. Just as usual. And talking about 'usual' how about 'koi shaq'?!! The usual phrase of Mithun da. Which is overused. But again, Mithun's role was also quite good.

Technically, the movie is good, but yet editing could be better. I saw some clear loopholes in editing. Cinematography was great, S.A. was looking gorgeous. All desert and mountains !! Background socre is really good. And inclusion of songs is also done very well. Script loses its way after intermission, but after a little time, it comes back on track. What most notable was the witty one liners. [Sujoy Tweeted : Heard that everyone is talking in phrases in this movie :) Yeah, right Sujoy] But fun it is.

There, no expectations worked for me. I went in to have fun, and returned with it. Unlike Kambakkht Ishq, where everything was perfectly insane. And I felt robbed ;-)

Moksha : Forgotten Soundtracks [6]

Rajesh Roshan-the melody man. Unlike his as-usual projects with brother Rakesh Roshan, here Rajesh did scored fabulous tracks for Moksha : Salvation [2001] directed by ace cinematographer Ashok Mehta. In addition to Breathtaking visuals, the music did wonders while watching to the movie. Moksha was on shelves for so long, and when it got released, only thing people remember-was the item song 'Jaan Leva'. Where 'newcomer' Arjun Rampal was stretching his biceps with [umm..] Kalpana Pandit. And somewhere in background there was Manisha Koirala [overweight, so hiding]. A fantastic dance number sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Kavita Krishnamurty. Both singer sung this really really well. Though the track is reminiscent of 'Kambakht Ishq' [pyar tune kya kiya] released at same time, but still it stands out. Where are you Kavita ji? You are my most favorite. :(

Did I forgot to add that lyricist is Javed Akhtar? Well, It came to my mind when I heard next track. 'Mohabbat Zindgi Hai' a sweet girly song sung by Madhushree. Song I love most is up next. Extremely lovely 'love'ly song 'Humko Pyaar Hai' sung by Kamaal Khan [yes, the same 'o o jane jaana' wala] and Sneha Pant [? not pants :D ]. A really sweet voice, we've never heard after. The song starts with trademark Rajesh Roshan - birds chirping, and sounds of nature. And the beats takes you over. With sweet voice of Sneha. Sweet sweet song.

Javed ji, shows his spark in next track 'Nani Maa' [maternal grandma]. - Lullaby version Sung by Mahalaxmi. A cute song gives nostalgic feeling and take us to our childhood. Back to our grandparents when we were child. Another version, as a quite 'opera-ish' - Dominique does outstanding singing in second version of Nani Maa' . Really really great singing indeed.

While last track 'Seep Mein Moti' which also comes twice, has shades of dark. Truth of life, betrayal and more. I prefer Shaan's version over Pamela Jain's. Again Javed ji has written excellent words.

The album also was one of the first venture of duo Salim-Suleiman. They had created Wow! background score for the movie. Album has got Four superb Instrumental tracks by them. Beautiful World, Change Is The Only Constant, Salvation and my favorite Beginning of the End. The tracks set mood-'dark mood' for the movie.

Overall, its a fantastic soundtrack for equally fantastic movie. I loved the movie. And Arjun too. I totally disagree with people who tells Arjun 'wooden face'. Also here is Nicki's review of the movie (with fantastic screencaps as always :) ]

Aladin : First Promo

Don't know why, but I am quite excited for this one. And That's why I am inspired to blog from office :P Since childhood, I always loved Aladin, be it the Disney series or the movie. Or the books. And who does not? Each and everyone must have heard the story and loved it back in their childhood.

Also this is again a time when Bollywood is going into the fabulous era of Arabian Nights. Though Drona tried hard, but couldn't make it. May be it was overdone in terms of 'superhero' thing and sloppy script. And sleepy Abhishek [grrr...] [Here are my rants] But I quite liked the theme how mythology was used [but the theme got lost] and definitely will go for Drona 2. [As I heard, SRK is interested :) ]

Another reason I want to see Aladin, is for the locations. Which I love, Rajasthan, especially Jaisalmer. And add comic timing of Riteish Deshmukh. :) But I couldn't identify the girl - is she Urvashi [the Naqaab girl]?? And Sujoy Ghosh, director of Jhankaar Beats and Home Delivery, I can surely expect something. And not to forget, special appearances !! And fun Soundtrack by Vishal and Shekhar. Here, you can find more about the movie. The blog written by Sujoy Ghosh / his companions.

And lastly, ppl around me tells that I do look like Riteish....[Do I?] :D So there, how can I miss this movie ?? :) :)

Here is the promo. Do share your thoughts.

Kaminey : Music Review

Scintillating !! Mind Blasting !! Soothing !! Foot Tapping !! Touching !!

Whoa !! All feelings in one album !! Yes, Yes, who else, but Vishal Bhardwaj can do it better then this? As most recently, Omkara and No Smoking did raise the standards to a great high for this versatile Music Director-Writer-Director-Singer; He keeps coming with such great great soundtracks one by one. In one of the most anticipated soundtrack + movie of 2009; Vishal outscored once again this time. Soundtrack of his latest Kaminey, is just so awesome no doubt its an instant chart topping.
Dhen Te Nan.....is a rage nowadays. And why not? Its such an addictive tune. Many times the phrase is used in normal talks. Like to surprise someone. And Gulzar saab surprised all, with Vishal, in this striking track. Ok, Many accuse Vishal for ripping off Pulp Fiction, and many other claims are out there. But its not. The track is so genuinely original, and innovative. Which drags you to hit the floor right then. Vishal Dadlani and Sukhvindar Singh does 'Dhen Te Nan' job of singing. Wah !! Dhen Te Nan ! There goes my Ringtone now :-)

Achanak hi...all of a sudden a so subtle smooth sound comes out. Its a piano piece and OMG....There's Mohit Chauhan. Man, Man, I just can't get enough of your voice. Here comes 'Pehli Baar Mohabbat Ki Hai' a soft rock-ish love song, in Mohit's own style. Add dash of Gulzar saab's 'as always' out of the world words, And sprinkle a super fine Orchestration of Vishal. Man ..I could go on and on listening to it. What words, Gulzar saab comes up every time...Oh..sample this :

"Yaad Hai, peepal ke jiske Ghane saaye main,
Hum ne Gilhari ke joothe matar khaye the"

Then comes the song Raat Ke Dhai Baje. I was surprised by a voice in the track, instantly checked and found credits including Suresh Wadkar !! Its been a long time really. His 'Jaag Ja Ri' was unforgetable in Omkara. Other singers are Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan, Rekha Bhardwaj & Earl. Also the track has the 'desi' feel. Like 'Dhen te nan' here also 'dhaun taun' kinda words. Making it more fun. Two phrases are taken from earlier song, 'pehli baar mohabbat ki hai, aakhiri baar mohabbat ki hai'. Innovation is thy name, Vishal !! Kunal sounds like his 'bheege honth' hangover is over :) Rekha and Sunidhi recreates Omkara magic. And tracks slows down at end with male domination, Suresh Wadkar touches you. But still, somewhere I feel this could be a little better [selfish, I am, after Omkara's item bombs].

And yes, then comes a track which is publicized as 'safe sex' song !! Yep, it has even 'AIDS' word into it !! Kudos Gulzar !! I bow to thee :D. 'Fatak' is definitely a weird name of a song. but only Vishal+Gulzar can justify that. And man, the way they does. 'Fatak' means a sound of whip. With a folk'ish' start, track goes fusion and goes a little sufi too. Why not? There is Kailash Kher and Sukhwinder Singh. The track reminds me of 'Kash Lagaa' from No Smoking, especially in antaras.

More More More.......i wanted more fabulous tracks..and there came, a scintillating soothing track soaked in symphony orchestration. the title track 'Kaminey' blows you out insanely. What more can you expect when Vishal himself is singing it?
[I have noted this, that every musician turns 'selfish' when it comes to singing own compostions, and they choose the best among the album; thats fantastic for listeners though :)]

Meri Aarzoo Kaminee...Mere Khwaab Bhi Kaminey....
Ek dil se dosti thi....Yeh Huzur bhi Kaminey.....

Words, Words !! Kaminey, no more remains a 'curse word' and it becomes a so intriguing in this track. Again Gulzar uses his favorite phrase 'Lal Ten laake, Aasman pe taango'. Wah Gulzar Saab Wah !! One of the best track of the year, easily. The track goes EXTRA HIGH just before second paragraph and get you flying high in musical sky !!!

Then we have Go Charlie Go - A extended theme of Dhen te Nan. Which again, is so addictive and doesn't let you down. Similarly remix version of Dhen Te Nan and Raat ke Dhai Baje are also keep you going.

[Oh..No..only six original tracks ??? Why not 10 songs like Omkara? :( I wanted more more.]

Enough said, this is one of the best of 2009, easily. So don't wait, just Go and Get It folks !! Till then.......Dhen Te Nannnnnnnnnnnnnnn.....Tena ten.....

My Rating : 4.5 / 5 stars !!!
My Picks : Kaminey, Pehli Baar, Fatak, Dhen Te Nan

Some fabulous wallpapers of Kaminey. I just loved the look of the movie. So couldn't help. :-D
